At Maple Bear Dayawati Modi International School

Dayawati Modi International, established in 1983 at Modipuram, Meerut, is a sanctuary of learning. It functions under the aegis of Gujar Mal Modi Charitable Trust which has created a web of educational institutions to provide quality learning. It is suitably located just 6 km. away from the city of Meerut and is easily accessible from Delhi. It is an English medium Senior Secondary co-educational school affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi; and has carved a niche for itself on the map of Meerut, situated amidst the serene surroundings with a picturesque backdrop, away from the bustle of the city. The academy provides an ideal environment for the students to study, to relax, to socialise and be with nature. The academy follows the CBSE pattern of education. It offers two streams- Science and Commerce. The academy has fully-equipped, spacious labs, each of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Studies and Mathematics. A well-stocked and multi-purpose library, a fine arts section suited to impart skills in Music, Dance, Art and Craft and fully furnished Computer Labs are also offered. The carefully planned curriculum ensures close contact between the teacher and the taught, enabling richer, all round development of the children. Learning is achieved mostly by doing, and children accumulate instructions through audio visual aids, charts, film and library reading. Art, painting, craft, music, dance, yoga, elocution and dramatics receive as much attention as athletics, games and sports. Students are encouraged to augment classroom instructions through project works excursions and trips. Community service is seen as an essential part in school, preparing the students to adopt more responsible attitudes early on in life. The management believes that their responsibility goes beyond merely imparting classroom education; rather, it prepares children for life-nurturing values that will help them grow into responsible, caring adults with respect and concern for others.

Elementary Program

Core Curriculum Elementary
The Maple Bear Elementary Program in India follows instruction in English.  Subjects taught include English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science.  There other subjects as per local requirements are included Hindi and Social Studies. Maple Bear Elementary program is aligned keeping in mind the learning outcomes as per NCERT national curriculum framework followed in CBSE affiliated schools.

English Language Arts

At all grades, the focus is on acquiring language and literacy skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students learn to read and produce a wide range of texts, including media, transactional (letters, e-mails, etc.), and terary texts. The level of sophistication grows with the advancing grade levels. All classrooms must be literacy-rich environments.

The themes of number sense and numeration, measurement, geometry and spatial sense, patterning and algebra, data management and probability are developed in increasing complexity at each grade level. The program emphasizes problem solving, understanding concepts, application of procedures and communication about mathematics.

The science program emphasizes enquiry and the use of the scientific method in science classes.  At each grade level increasingly complex topics are studied from the fields of biology, physics, chemistry and environmental science. The emphasis is on experimentation and application rather than memorization. All instruction in the Maple Bear Elementary School follows educational principles which have made Canadian practice so successful:

Outcomes are defined: Learning is targeted to achieve very specific learning outcomes. It is clear what the children need to learn.
Canadian performance standards are applied: Canadian performance standards determine the learning outcomes. Maple Bear students are expected to achieve performance levels similar to Canadians.

Curriculum development for English-language subjects is done in Canada by Canadian experts.

Canadian style teaching strategies are implemented: Canadian teaching strategies encourage student independence, strong literacy skills, higher level thinking and problem solving.

A sophisticated set of learning resources are used: Learning resources include books, manipulative materials, visual materials, electronic media, and computer technology.

Assessment of student learning is based on Canadian standards. In all cases, Canadian programming exceeds the requirements of local elementary education authorities in each country.
