Maple Bear offers several programs for children of an age group ranging from 18 months to 8 years.
Maple Bear™ Preschool program is modeled upon current Canadian early childhood practices. The program is designed to educate the child in a wholesome manner: physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Integration of subjects provides a rich and stimulating program which encourages creativity, imagination and self-expression. Maple Bear is a secure environment where risk-taking is encouraged, and where children perceive themselves as capable and competent learners.
TODDLER (18 months to 3 years)
The minimum age for admission at this level is 18 months.
In the toddler years, children begin to experiment on a more advanced level than at the infant stage. Their range of motor skills increases, and they begin to progress to a higher cognitive level. Toddlers learn with their entire bodies- they move about constantly, touching everything, experiencing all things, and solving problems on a physical level. Their language skills, in this period of time, are rapidly developing. The “job” of a toddler is to develop his/her self-help skills while pushing for separateness and independence. As a result, toddlers are constantly testing limits.
NURSERY (3 to 4 years)
Our nursery program provides a rich classroom environment where children are encouraged to explore and are challenged to learn. Your children will make new friends and develop self-confidence as they strengthen their cognitive skills. Observe your child demonstrate new learning and thrive in our stimulating classroom environment- while having fun!
JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN (4 to 5 years)
Lower Kindergarten or JKG is a critical time for children, as it is here that they begin an adventure of a lifetime of learning. Every day, your child is learning and experiencing more, which is why our program is designed to constantly challenge.
Our caring, experienced teachers are dedicated to providing a rich and nurturing environment that will prepare your child for Kindergarten. We promote independence in an organised atmosphere, as it is increasingly important for children to be their own thinkers. We also teach children to work well within a group, through listening, sharing and cooperation.
SENIOR KINDERGARTEN (5 to 6 years)
At our centres, children are in a secure environment they know and love, which makes learning more effective and fun. Our programs are comprehensive, skill-based and are designed to start your child off right, and you will witness immediate success.
Our activities are tailored to meet your child’s individual needs, and our teachers provide opportunities to explore, question, communicate and create in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Our SKG curriculum meets and even exceeds state and national content standards for the first-grade, making sure your child is prepared to excel at the next level.
Maple Bear’s Day Care program has been designed, keeping in mind the physical, social, intellectual, creative and emotional needs of the child (appropriate to each age). The program takes care of all the aspects related to development in children and helps children’s holistic growth. The Day Care is offered as a value added service in a structured and detailed manner available for both- its own enrolled children, as well as for children from various other schools. Thus, it poses an opportunity for children from schools other than Maple Bear, to experience firsthand the core pillars of the Maple Bear system.
MOMS AND TOTS
This program targets those mothers/parents who prefer full participation with their children at the early years of learning; and possibly those who wish to know what takes place in the school prior to full registration. The parent will be an active participant in this program.
Goal: For mothers/parents to understand the importance of continuing education outside the classroom and in their homes, while learning the techniques involved.
SATURDAY PROGRAM (Level JKG & SKG)
This program provides parents of children at this age with an option for academic registration on Saturdays (especially convenient for parents who work on Saturdays, or want to keep their child busy during part of the weekend). The program is focused on mostly all interactive and hands-on exercises that will reinforce themes being taught during the course of their regular school year.
The Saturday program is beneficial for those children having some difficulty grasping certain topics taught from Monday to Friday. Simultaneously, the themes may be expanded for quick learners.
THEMATIC SUMMER CAMPS
Maple Bear™ is unique in its offering of thematic summer camps, ranging from themes like Dinosaurs and Trees, for age groups 2 to 8 years old. Some themes are expanded to cater to higher age groups (till 10 years of age).
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PLUS PROGRAMS
INTENSIVE LITERARY PLUS (Level: JKG)
Intensive Literacy Plus is a supplementary program for full-time JKG students who have had some English instruction previously. The purpose of the program is to enhance student’s English literacy skills in reading and writing, with the use of informational text material in Science and Social Studies. Students will be engaged in reading and writing activities; including phonics, vocabulary developmental and grammar. An additional goal of this program is to expand knowledge through literacy.
The Intensive Literacy Program (ILP) has 40-45 minutes of daily academic programming, focused on reading and writing.
INTENSIVE KINDERGARTEN PLUS (Level: SKG)
The purpose of the program is to enhance student’s English literacy skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing through informational texts in Science and Social Studies. Students will be engaged in problem-solving activities, planning, designing and writing. They will learn about reading, comprehension strategies, making oral presentations, and evaluating or reflecting on their work.
The children have two 90 minute lessons per week (approximately). All children learn at different rates, and often require more or less time to meet the learning goals. In order for all children to meet with success, there are a number of strategies which teachers use to accommodate the needs of the learner.
INTENSIVE ENGLISH PLUS (Level: Grade 1 and 2)
The Intensive English Plus Program will enrich the children’s English language learning through the use of factual reading materials. The units are designed to assist children in understanding and using books to gain knowledge, and to utilise the English language through a variety of learning activities. The more a child is exposed to and uses English, the faster fluency in the language can develop.
Each unit integrates the five streams of a Canadian-based Language Arts program: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Viewing. The lessons are designed to allow children to experience activities in each of the five streams. These experiences will be presented to children through the use of a variety of teaching strategies.
